Sports Injuries

Q & A

What is Sports Medicine?

Sports Medicine focuses on the treatment and prevention of injuries that result from sports and exercise. It can benefit anyone who is physically active, whether they’re a competitive athlete, weekend warrior, or simply following an exercise program.

Athletes experience a number of common foot and ankle injuries while playing sports, such as sprains and tears. Many of these injuries result at least in part from fatigue and overuse and are preventable through adjustments in form, equipment, and training.

Dr. Tien’s goal as a sports medicine doctor is to help you return to pre-injury performance as quickly as possible. When she treats sports injuries, she focuses equally on helping you recover quickly and making sure you can continue to be active without risking further injuries.

How can we help you?

Dr. Tien enjoys leading an active lifestyle. Growing up, she was a competitive dancer throughout high school and continued her passion for dance through college. During podiatry school, she discovered the balance of strength and flexibility in yoga and even excelled in acroyoga. She has always approached life with a sports mentality, understanding that hard work and dedication can yield personal successes, but there can still be setbacks and obstacles to overcome. She sustained a severe ankle sprain that occurred during a medical mission trip no less, and went through the required functional rehabilitation to return to her active lifestyle. Her experiences have given her the compassion and empathy to help her patients come back from injuries and keep doing what they love most. Let Dr. Tien help you with your foot or ankle injury and get you back on your feet.
